Your family’s voices belong to your family.

This page explains exactly what MemoriGems collects, who can see it, and what we will never do with it. It is written to be read, not to protect us.

What we collect

What your family makes

• Voice recordings — the audio itself, stored so it can be played back.
• Photos you add to a Gem, and any caption or title you write.
• A Gem Keeper’s profile — their name and preferred name, an optional photo, phone or email, and whatever you choose to write about who they are: what settles them, what they like to talk about, the people who matter to them.
• Your circle — the name, email and role of anyone you invite to send Gems with you.

All of this is entered by you. We never add to it.

Your account

• Your email address and password, held by Google Firebase Authentication. We cannot see your password.
• The name you give us at setup, and who you are recording for.
• During the founding families pilot, the access code you used and when you redeemed it.

How the app is used

• When a Gem is played, whether it was a first listen or a replay, and which device or account played it.
• Hearts sent back, and who sent them.
• When a Gem Keeper’s device is set up, and when it was last used.
• If you create a share link or a care‑team snapshot, we record that it exists so you can turn it off again.

We do not record what is said in your recordings, or read your captions, in order to analyse them. Nothing listens to your Gems.

Technical

• Ordinary web server logs kept by our hosting provider, including IP addresses.
• Google reCAPTCHA and Firebase App Check, which confirm requests come from the real app rather than a bot. This is abuse prevention, not tracking.

What we will never do

• We will never sell your data, or your family’s recordings, to anyone. There is no version of MemoriGems where that happens.
• We will never use your recordings to train artificial intelligence. Not ours, not anyone else’s.
• We will never share a recording outside the circle your family created — not with researchers, not with advertisers, not as a marketing example, unless you specifically ask us to and say so in writing.
• We will never show you advertising, and we do not let anyone track you across other websites.

What we never do with a voice

A recording of someone’s voice can be used for things that have nothing to do with remembering them. We want to be specific about which of those we do not do.

• We do not make a voiceprint. Nothing in MemoriGems measures or models the sound of a person’s voice.
• We do not use a voice to recognise or verify anyone. There is no voice sign-in, and no matching of one recording against another.
• We do not analyse voices for health, mood, or anything else.
• We do not use recordings to build or train any AI model, and we do not send them to any AI service.

Recordings are stored so they can be played back to the person they were made for. That is the whole purpose, and it is the only thing they are used for.

Who can see what

• The people in your circle. You decide who they are and you can remove them.
• The Gem Keeper, on their own device, or beside you on yours.
• Anyone holding a share link you created. Those links are long and unguessable, and you can switch one off at any time.
• A care team, only if your family deliberately creates a Connection Snapshot for them. That is never automatic, and it can be revoked.
• Us. Being honest: as the people who run the service, we can technically reach what is stored, the same way anyone running a database can. We look at counts — Gems made, Gems heard — to understand how the pilot is going. We do not sit and listen to families’ recordings, and we would only ever open one if you asked us to help with something specific.

Companies we rely on

MemoriGems is small. These are the services it runs on, and the only outside companies your information reaches:

• Google Firebase — accounts, the database, and file storage. Your recordings and photos live here.
• Vercel — hosting for the website and the app.
• Google Fonts — the typefaces on these pages, loaded from Google’s servers.
• Formspree — delivers the form on this site when you write to us about the pilot.
• Pexels — only if you search for a stock photo inside the app. Your search words go to Pexels; nothing else does.
• Tally — the feedback and “stay in the loop” forms are Tally forms. They are links: nothing reaches Tally unless you tap one and type something. But what you write there is stored with Tally rather than inside MemoriGems, so if you want to tell us something private, please write to us directly instead.
• Anthropic — only if you tap “Ideas” for help thinking of something to say. The word you type is sent to generate suggestions. No recording, photo or caption is ever sent.

Children

The LittleGems printables on this site are free downloads. Nothing is collected, and no account is needed. MemoriGems accounts are for adults; if a child appears in a Gem, that is your family’s choice and the Gem stays inside your circle like any other.

How long we keep it

The founding families pilot ends in mid-November 2026. One month after that — by mid-December 2026 — we delete everything that could identify you or the person you recorded for. That means the recordings, the photos, the words you wrote, the profile you filled in, who was in your circle, and your account itself.

Before then, everything your family made is gathered up and handed to you — the audio and photos as real files, with a page that plays them on any computer, with no account and no internet. Yours to keep, whatever happens to us. We will make sure you have it, and check with you, well before anything is deleted.

What we keep afterwards is counts with no names attached — how many Gems were made, how often they were played — so we can understand whether MemoriGems helped. Nothing in it points back to you, your family, or the person you recorded for.

If you would rather we deleted everything sooner, write to us and we will, and we will tell you when it is done. If MemoriGems ever stopped operating before then, you would hear from us first, with time and a way to take everything with you.

What you can ask for

• A copy of everything your family has made.
• Deletion — of one recording, or of everything.
• To correct anything we hold about you.
• To stop, at any point, without explaining yourself.

Consent, when someone cannot give it themselves

Many Gem Keepers are living with memory changes, and some cannot meaningfully agree to anything on this page. We think that deserves saying out loud rather than hiding behind a tick box.

The family member who sets up MemoriGems is making that decision on their behalf, the way families make many decisions in dementia care. We ask you to make it the way you would want it made for you: record what you would be glad to have said, and stop if it stops being welcome. If the person you love is distressed by something, take it away. Nothing here is worth that.

Changes to this page

If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. During the pilot we will also tell you directly — there are few enough of you that an email is the honest way to do it.
